Brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg have decided to call Toronto their new home — or at least a home for their burgers.
Wahlburgers, a casual burger restaurant founded by the siblings, announced Monday they will open a new joint downtown this summer at 46 Blue Jay Way.
"The Toronto location is in a perfect, high traffic spot and fits the needs of our local partners," Rick Vanzura, CEO of Wahlburgers, said in an emailed statement.
Wahlburgers is also known for its starring role in the A&E Network's original series "Wahlburgers" that focuses on the original franchise in Boston. The joint's retro modern decor is intended to symbolize how the brothers went from kids growing up in recession-stricken neighbourhood in Boston to becoming a chef and international celebrities.
A similar design is planned for the Toronto location.
"We look forward to working with (our partners) on the transformation of the space," said Vanzura.
A handful of new restaurants are also planned for Boston and Philadelphia, and, like Toronto, will be serving up the menu's classic ground beef burgers, pure beef hotdogs, crispy fries, onion rings, tater tots and specialty frappes.
"These are the next steps in building Wahlburgers into a great and enduring worldwide brand. We have built the restaurant and partnerships with quality and care, and my brothers and I look forward to continuing the journey," said Mark Wahlberg in a news release.
The company is encouraging any interested franchisees and business partners "to bring restaurants to cities all over North America," according to the statement.
"We will continue to look for partners and multi-unit operators that can help us expand into new markets in a way that upholds the strength and standards of the Wahlberg brand," said Vanzura.
